Innaccurate Book Art: The Wolf & The Hawk
I made this illustration for practice, funsies, and to gift to a creator (Julian Greystoke) who has just finished reading a pretty bad book for entertainment and analysis.
I used the art by Clyde Caldwell, mostly known for his 80's fantasy and sci-fi art and illustrations (along with general trope of the half-naked woman clinging to or at the leg of the half-naked dude hero that was popular for the 80's fantasy and sci-fi art) as inspiration for this Inaccurate Book Art for the fantasy romance novel, The Wolf and The Hawk by Julian Greystoke. Here's a small sample of Caldwell's work so you get the literal pictures I what I was looking at.
Here's are links to buying the The Wolf and the Hawk electronic book, paper back, or audiobook:

The main leading lady is the strong ax wielding barbarian "princess" Ryone, a.k.a. the Wolf of the Vyrn, so she got to be the buff and tuff one who gets to stand up looking stoic. Her love interest is prince Alexander "Xander," The Hawk of Ged, is the archer and the more lean one so he gets to be on the ground. I tried to have more dramatic lighting and scene to match the energy of the artworks I referenced and is inspired to make this illustration. The colors were chosen simply to stand out, though a little silly and over-the-top in comparison to the art that inspired this digital illustration.
These are the different layers of the illustration.
